My plan has been setup and starts this week. First run is on Wednesday and is a 4.3 km run with a 7:16 min/km target pace.

Royal Parks Half Marathon
I have got a place in the Royal Parks Half Marathon. Now waiting for my race pack to arrive. In the meantime, I will be adjusting my training plan.
Christmas Run
So, it’s Christmas Day, and rather than lie in, I let my alarm go off this morning, got up, and did an early morning run. Not a long distance, mind you, since it was only 6 deg C, but a nice, quiet run. No cars on the road, just me, my music, and the pavement in front of me.
5210K – Week 1, Day 2
I completed Five to 10K Week 1 Day 2 (7.04 km), in 46:21, pace 06:35 min/km, with @RunDouble http://rndb.co/k5NK
A delay between my last run and this run due to work pressures, reasonably good on this run, dropped to a walk just before the end.
Kernel Tinkering, SuSE, and SteamOS
This is what I like about studying for certifications. They force you to look into subjects at a deeper level than you may otherwise have done. One of the topics in LPIC-2 is Kernel maintenance – understanding the kernel, how it works, the concept of dynamically loaded modules, compiling the kernel and modifying the configuration prior to compiling. It is very intriguing learning about this low-level part of the Linux OS.
It is a complex topic though, and compiling a kernel can take a while, depending on configuration. I managed to compile and install my first kernel today. :)
Meanwhile, since I’ve now obtained my SUSE 11 CLA from Novell (not sure if anything will come through in the post, though), I must really refresh my memory on openSuSE. My primary distributions have been Ubuntu and Fedora.
Whilst downloading various linux distributions including the latest versions of Ubuntu and Fedora, I found out that I could download SteamOS, which is Valve’s own distribution for running its Steam platform. Problem is it only supports x64 which I don’t have (yet)

5-10K Training – Week 1, Day 1
I completed Five to 10K Week 1 Day 1 (7.04 km), in 44:09, pace 06:16 min/km, with @RunDouble http://rndb.co/h5HU
First one of the 5K to 10K plan. Boy was it a tough one. Several intervals of 1.28K with a short walk in between. Still, lasted the session, but my legs are hurting now.
5k Training
I completed C25K Full 5K (5.00 km), in 31:43, pace 06:20 min/km, with @RunDouble http://rndb.co/55FY
Finished the last run in the C25K training plan. Next up is to try to extend it further, but I think I’ll still with 5K’s for a while to get my endurance back. Hopefully.
Also finished S3M1 of ZR3, but won’t be including the track here.
