Happy New Year

1st January 2022. A new year, a new start.

What are your plans for the 2022 year? I’ve picked up Zombies Run again after a few years away due to its memory footprint inflating so much it wouldn’t run on my S5 without causing Android to force close other apps. It works fine on my OnePlus 9 Pro though.

Intervals x6

Completed mission “Interval Training” #zombiesrun

6 intervals , 15/60 split with 10 min warmup run. Nice run, but hit wall at 5th interval.

Interestingly, just checked my stats (have to manually connect this workout with my Endomondo training plan) and found that I hit 1km in 05:12 at peak, and 06:58 at lowest

5k Training

I completed C25K Full 5K (5.00 km), in 31:43, pace 06:20 min/km, with @RunDouble http://rndb.co/55FY

Finished the last run in the C25K training plan. Next up is to try to extend it further, but I think I’ll still with 5K’s for a while to get my endurance back. Hopefully.

Also finished S3M1 of ZR3, but won’t be including the track here.

Zombies, Run! Revived

Yesterday was my first run on the ZR3 app since stopping back in June. Resuming from S3M1 (Season 3 Mission 1), even though I’ve done that mission before, so I can pick up Season 3 from scratch again. And guess what, I picked up a new Achievement: Well-earned Rest. Stop using ZR3 for a month or more and then use it again, and you’ll get this achievement.

By the way, I am still not updating the Achievements list on my BitBucket repository.

Zombies Run

After several months, I have upgraded my phone from an HTC Sensation to a Samsung Galaxy S5 and the first thing I did was root my G5, which surprisingly was VERY easy, just use ODIN and the ODIN tool. My HTC Wildfire S was super hard to root (had to use the XTC hardware tool), and now I have Titanium Back restoring my apps. I am considering flashing CFW, but I want to make sure I have a Nandroid-compatible recovery installed first.

I also have redownloaded Zombies, Run!, and I am going to try to catch up with the storyline from where I left off. My last mission was “Veronica” back in June (Mission 15), but I’m going to redo the entire Season 3 missions again to be sure.

Zombies, Run now supports (albeit at an experimental level) external media players (somewhat obsoleting my Google Music tutorial), but I haven’t tried this feature and it does note that by enabling this mode, ZR will not allow you to select music lists internally. Not that it matters to me right now, since I have loads of music stored locally on my device.

Zombies Run – The End

After tolerating the instability of ZR3 for a long time, I have finally decided to quit using the app. It has become unusable, crashing EVERY use at least once and causing other apps to force close as Android tries to frantically free up memory for the black hole that is ZR3. Six to Start have not even addressed this issue, even though they acknowledge it is a memory hog.

The resources I have made — the Google Music tutorial page, and the Bitbucket respository, will remain up for now, but will not be updated further. If someone wants to pick them up and continue with them, by all means, do so, and let me know, so I can add a redirect or link to your site.

ZR Store Issues

ZR Store Issues

Seems like I wasn’t alone:

We are aware that some Android users are experiencing issues with the Zombies, Run! in-app store which is preventing people from obtaining Season Passes. We’re currently working on a fix for this which will be made available as soon as we can — in the meantime, we will be keeping you up to date via the Zombies, Run! Twitter feed.

We’ll also be releasing a new version of Zombies, Run! on iOS which fixes an issue with the Season 3 Special Pass. Currently this will only be available to buy for people who have previously bought *any* Season 2 Pass and the Season 1 Race Missions.

We’re changing this so that anyone who has previously purchased Season 2 content (a Season 2 Season Pass, Season 2 Pass Plus or a Season 2 Side Mission Pass) will be able to get hold of the Season 3 Special Pass.

Rest assured that the current launch sale for Season Passes will not end until shortly after these problems are solved, so you won’t miss out on your chance to get access to all of our upcoming Season 3 content at a discounted price.

We apologise for any inconvenience that has been caused. We’re working to get these problems solved as quickly as possible!

In case you’re wondering what this “Issue” looks like:

Zombies, Run! Season 3

Zombies, Run! Season 3 is out now. It is an update to the ZR app, so you should be able to continue progress. If not, wipe the cache, relogin and setup the install again.

ZR3 appears to break gmusicfs, so I’m tinkering with settings to see if I can get it back, and it does appear to be VERY laggy at first start.

On the plus side, you can download the first two missions of Season 3, the Season 3 Radio, AND get a season pass for Season 3 at the moment. The update is backwards compatible so you can still play Season 1, Season 2, Race, Radio, Supply, and Airdrop missions.

Stats-philes will enjoy being able to see their stats on the app now.

The app seems to be pretty volatile, and I’ve had it ANR (App Not Responding) many times on me already.
