I really need to pick up and freshen up my Java knowledge. The last time I seriously programmed in it, we had no generic types, no lambda expressions, the Collections framework was not actively in use, and the dynamic object type of choice was Vector.

“Homeless” Man Versus Businessman Experiment Proves Judgemental Side of Human Nature [VIDEO]

In a heartbreaking social experiment, a man dressed as a homeless person falls down in a busy street in Paris, France. Dozens of people pass by him, no one offering a hand. Then, a person dressed in a suit falls in the exact same location, appearing to be sick, and everyone jumps to his aid.

The video claims the “homeless” man was lying on the street for more than five minutes without anyone offering help. Some of the passers-by stop to take a second look, but still do nothing.

On the other hand, the man in a suit doesn’t even need to cry for help before several people hurry to his side.

While the “experiment” can’t be 100% validated, it still shows an interesting, and unpleasant, side of human nature.

The video also highlights an incident from 2008, when a woman collapsed in a waiting room of a New York City hospital, and the staff ignored her for 45 minutes.

At one point in the video, a caption simply asks: “What if it was you?” A chilling thought considering any one of us could one day be on the wrong end of a snap judgement.

Cloudy, windy, grey, and overcast. No rain, but it looks like it will any moment. Short run, then I’m starting my 10K training plan again.

Grey, gloomy, and raining. Although, like most British weather, it cleared up soon after starting the run.   No records broken this week, but did get two trophies.

You finished in 41st place and were the 37th male out of a field of 75 parkrunners and you came 9th in your age category VM35-39. Take a look at this week’s full set of results on our website. Congratulations on setting a new Personal Best at this event! Congratulations on your fastest time this year.

Recent Linux Kernel Update

Lubuntu

The recent linux kernel update has screwed up my admin accounts on both my Ubuntu-based boxes (Lubuntu & Ubuntu Studio). I’ve spent three hours creating a new user, making them sudo-enabled, then moving my files from my old profile to my new one and tinkering with a few scripts and desktop shortcuts that were still pointing at the old home directory.

Mind you, it’s given me an opportunity to test my LPIC-1 knowledge.
