I thought with the Hire car collected, this incident would be closed. I guess not.
The insurance broker contacted me to ask me to complete a litigation questionnaire. From the sounds of it, the other side is resisting the costs, unsurprisingly.

Finally hit day 50 of quarantined exercising. A colder, but less windy day. Big lap today, but decided to try cutting some of the longer corners to see how much of a difference that made.
My hair is really starting to grow out and is beginning to really irritate my ears.
And I found out my second backup domain I play development with no longer had its email forwarders working, and when I logged in, my account seemed to be pretty borked. A back and forth with support emerged that my hosting provider got acquired (again) and looks like my data was not transferred properly, or was empty when it was transferred. More likely someone f**ked up during the migration.
They recreated my account but it’s still pretty flaky. I’m asking whether I’ll get a credit for the 6 months of failed hosting (the acquisition took place at the end of last year), and I’m seriously considering transferring the domain off this hosting provider and onto Google Domains, but I would lose my email forwarding. I think I’ll look at buying another dummy domain on Google Domains and test with that for a bit.
Fitbit workout today wasn’t too bad. Not as intense as my last one. Still sweaty, but not “dropping beads of sweat” sweaty. Next workout is Legs, Arms & Shoulders
Also did my 3km walk, but today was super windy during the walk so I won’t be surprised if I catch a cold from this.
Short walk today, 3km, no fitbit workout as my arms are still hurting too much from yesterday’s workout.
Short 3 km walk and fitbit workout. There was some emphasis on arms today, and my arms are SUPER sore.
Next fitbit workout is back and core
A free Friday because I’m now on 4 day week, and it’s VE Day, so my one-hour walk came across several roads with bunting and lots of Union Jacks. It certainly was suitable weather for it…
Lots of people were queuing and saw the longest queue outside Tesco Supermarket (and not Sainsbury’s surprisingly)
After the one-hour walk, I then did my Fitbit workout, which was just shy of 35 minutes and I certainly felt it afterwards….
Dropped an email to the insurance brokers to ask when I would expect to see the final cheque for my car and they advised end of this week, early next. And I then asked about the hire car and they advised I am entitled to the car for another 7 days after the receipt of the final cheque.
Problem is, I can’t get another car right now due to the lockdown, but I did check on Car Wow and Auto Trader. Car Wow seems much easier to use. And I have already got an offer from a Toyota dealer in Woodford Green, about 1.5 hours bus journey away (three buses) and only about 10 miles.
Doing early shopping tomorrow, so only did my 1hr walk today, and no FitBit workout, but should be able to finish this week’s set if I work out Friday/Saturday/Sunday
A nice hot day, no queues except outside Sainsbury’s, and a few at Co-op on the way back.
Got my first cheque in the post from Aviva the insurance company the other driver is part of. Now waiting for the second cheque from the Salvage agents.
Also got a refund from DVLA for the remainder of my road tax since the car is now written off.
My car was picked up and the salvage agent drove off into the distance in the pouring rain….
He drove out with fuel leaking from my car as he drove the card hard up against the van’s ramp and it made lots of scraping sounds as he was trying to force the broken bits of my car up the ramp too. The ramp was wet, so also lead to my car’s wheels spinning.
He tried to avoid signing the V5C, saying the office would sort it but I insisted he sign (I can do the SORN online, but would rather have something in writing in case).
I did the SORN online (https://www.gov.uk/sold-bought-vehicle if you’re curious) and got the confirmation from the DVLA that I’m no longer the owner of the vehicle, but will get a letter in the post. I still have the Section 9 from the V5C but will not need to send it apparently.
The pouring rain continued throughout the whole day and after I finished work, so no after-work walk as I normally do and have been doing every day after work.
I did do my FitBit workout though. 29 minutes today.
Another walk in nice weather. Did the longer walk today. Queues outside the local fruit n veg. No queue outside Co-Op (though there was on the way back). Small queue outside Tesco Express petrol station, big queues outside Sainsbury’s no queue outside Tesco Express supermarket, and small queues outside the butchers and the fruit n veg stores nearby to there.
Did my shopping this morning. Missed my usual 5:30am queue up and ended at the Tesco at 6:15am and there were no queues. No idea why, there’s normally queues until past 6:30am at least.
And the shelves were pretty well stocked up. So perhaps the panic buyers have finally bankrupted themselves.
This will be the final weekend with my car since it will be being picked up Monday for recycling. So I made sure everything was emptied out of the car today. Out of curiosity, I turned on the ignition (but not the engine) and the electrics all came on and the radio was fine and still had its memory of my stations, and there were no warning alarms. Whether the car is driveable or not, we’ll find out when the salvage agent comes on Monday.
