Snow is starting to melt and it’s been drizzling, but not cold enough for the rain to freeze.

Training in Quarantine – Day 238
Really cold evening walking out. The snow is still mostly there, parts of it have melted, others have not. There’s a distinct lack of grit on most of the pavements, even on the steep part of the hill where I live.
Walk had to be slower than normal, with the occasional slip.
Snow
It finally snowed today. And as usual, gritters were not out in time.
The roads turned into slushy, slippery dangerous skidways, but there were no accidents fortunately.
I had to head into Chinatown to pickup my contact lenses from the opticians. While waiting for the bus, two cars got stuck trying to climb the hill (it’s a notorious hill that has caused problems in the past during snowy, icy conditions, even the police got stuck the last time it snowed heavily)
Since the cars were now blocking the road going up, I decided to go and take a different route to Chinatown, and went via the Northern Line instead of the Piccadilly Line like I was originally planning.
The pavements were slushy and there was not even any sign of gritting. The station pavements were gritted, but presumably by the station staff, and not the council.
Even while coming home and trying to climb the hill to my house, my shoes were not gripping well, and had to take small steps to make sure I wouldn’t fall.
Dangerously incompetent, that’s what my local council are.
Training in Quarantine – Day 237
Early morning shopping today, and while we were forecast for ice, there was none on my car. Temperature varied between 0 and 2 degC, so potentially-icy but no ice.
Did my walk today at the usual time, and was still pretty damn cold, but manageable.
Training in Quarantine – Day 236
Grey skies, looks like it’s going to rain….
And it did, briefly. Didn’t get too wet, though.
Training in Quarantine – Day 235
Went for my walk a bit earlier today, warmer but still chilly.
Went without my woolly hat and gloves for the second half of the walk.
Training in Quarantine – Day 234
Evening walk, and with a storm coming in, it’s wet and windy too. Gone dark much earlier than usual.
Training in Quarantine – Day 233
Evening walk, temperature dropped again. But doable.
Training in Quarantine – Day 232
Walked my normal lap — lighter today than usual, and not as cold. Spotted three ambulances outside a house during the walk. This house has had ambulances outside them multiple times during the pandemic. Maybe someone elderly or mobility impaired lives there? But that wouldn’t explain having three ambulances.
Yesterday it was snowing when I was doing the weekly shop and I almost slipped as I unloaded the shopping out of the car. The snow didn’t really settle though, so we were relatively safe, and the gritters were out in force in the early hours of the morning.
Training in Quarantine – Day 231
Another cold day walking. Went past a warehouse that used to have a balloons and party shop.
Now turned into a ScrewFix.
Pandemic has claimed another commercial victim.
