Lighting in Blender

Couple of important tips when doing lighting in Blender, taken from the current book I’m reading:

  1. The wrong lighting will ruin a shot, regardless of how fantastic your modelling and surfacing.
  2. If you can light a scene effectively without any custom surfacing, you know you have done it right. If you can convey the mood and setting of the scene properly through the lightning alone, then your job is almost done.
  3. Do your lighting first, and make it good.

My, my, my, it’s been such a long time since I did anything on Blender, and it’s been a long time since I was reading off my Kindle app. Well, I’m going to pick up again, and although the books I have are primarily based on Blender 2.4x, at least I can use them to learn the basics.

I have a lot of material to cover either way…

Ōkami

Whilst browsing Pinterest, I found this. It’s a Blender rendering of Amaterasu from the game Ōkami. With the introduction of the Freestyle rendering in Blender, I suspect we’ll see similar artwork explode onto the CG scene pretty soon.
