Pensioner breaks down after hearing late wife in message for first time in 12 years

This is Stan Beaton. He lost his wife Ruby 12 years ago.

The 68-year-old retired forklift truck driver, from Mirfield, West Yorkshire, had kept a voicemail message of her voice on their phone since her death in 2003.

But last month, due to work from his phoneline provider Virgin Media, the voicemail was deleted.

Mr Beaton was devastated and called Virgin to see if the message could be recovered.

He said:

I’ve always resisted changing companies because whenever I mentioned that my wife’s voice was our voicemail message and would it be retained and each company said no, so that’s why I never changed.

Sadly it disappeared. I was absolutely devastated by it, but also extremely angry.
