When she woke up, Amy Wigfull was in hospital.

The 24-year-old from Sheffield had fallen 50ft from a hotel bedroom window in a Spanish resort.

She remembers nothing of the incident, which happened earlier this month in Benalmádena near Malaga, where she was part of a group of family and friends celebrating her mother and cousin’s 40th birthdays. She had been sleepwalking when she fell.

‘The last thing I remember is getting into bed and going to sleep,’ she said last week. ‘The next thing I remember is coming round in intensive care with the family standing over me in tears.’

She sustained fractures to her spine, pelvis, shoulders and wrist, a punctured lung and suffered bleeding on the brain after she sleepwalked into a bathroom and fell through a window on to concrete below. She is expected…
