Flashing My Phone

#

I’ve been contemplating flashing my phone since the guys at Cyanogenmod haven’t released any new ROM versions since 2013. Looking around on the XDA forums, I’ve found plenty of releases by other people and teams, some of which are the new KitKat version. So I downloaded and put those on my phone, but learning from past mistakes, I made sure I had a backup. My recovery is the TWRP, so I did a backup on that tool, then flashed the ROM. It booted up fine, but got loads of FCs, so I went back and restored my backup. Or so I thought. Going back into my pre-KitKat ROM, left me with a factory-resetted version of a good ROM. So I can to reconnect my Google accounts, install Titanium Backup and its key, then restore my backups from Titanium. Seriously, buy Titanium Backup, it will save you HOURS of time redownloading, reinstalling, and reconfiguring your applications.

So now, I’m running my application restores, then I’m going to reboot and check it all works, then download and install the latest TWRP recovery (I suspect mine might be out of date since I haven’t used it for a long while), and do another backup, then try again.

CyanogenMod 11 Screencast video recording is as easy as taking a screenshot

#

One of Android KitKat\'s new features is a way for developers to easily make video recordings with the SDK, but what about every day users? After previously demonstrating display streaming software, CyanogenMod developer Koushik Dutta has released a new beta app in the Play Store (join the Google+ Community first for access) that simplifies the process. It does require users to be on one of the latest nightly builds of CyanogenMod 11 to work, but once loaded it can make recording a video of one\'s screen just as simple as taking a screenshot. As demonstrated in a video (embedded after the break), users can even activate it with the volume up + power combo on a Nexus 5, just like the volume down + power button that takes a screenshot.

If you're not on CyanogenMod there is still hope however, as Dutta revealed over the weekend that he has it working on any rooted device running Android 4.4.1, and may have a way for it to operate even on hardware that's not rooted. Koush has been a busy guy lately, also revealing that Google may add Android-to-Chromecast mirroring soon and releasing a new version of his media streaming AllCast app, we almost feel bad about hoping the Cast SDK adds on a few new opportunities.

Dungeon Defenders

#

Although Dungeon Defenders can still be installed off Play, it is not possible to install the additional data files needed to run it, so you can’t play it any longer. There was, for a while at least, a beta of the next DD game, but I didn’t catch it in time.

Dungeon Hunter 4

#

Making progress now in the game. Finally hit my first PvP area. Haven’t tried it yet, though. In addition, I’ve finally decided to try the Blood Arena area. I can get a few monsters in, but die pretty quickly. Some of the monsters there are quite tough. Others, fall quite easily. The more often and better I fight in the arena, the better my score, and the better the prizes I collect at the end of the week.

Dungeon Hunter 4

Found a new Android Game to entertain myself now. Dungeon Hunter 4.

Screenshot_2013-11-16-15-37-11

It’s a Dungeon Crawler and has some nice graphics. A bit hungry on the CPU so has a tendency to jump on older hardware, but has a decent storyline (so far), and there’s VOICES, and as an additional bonus, I’m not hearing many American accents. I picked a Warmage as my character as I have thing for mages, and even though the game is freemium, I haven’t had the need to really spend much money on it, and there’s not many features that demand you to buy in-app purchases to continue. The only one that does is the Wheel of Fate which is a gambling game, anyway. Plus you can play the lowest rung (Bronze level) for free once a day.

I’m L13 at the moment, enjoying it, even if I do die on a couple of higher-level dungeons.

Oh, also, shoutout to anyone who knows the significance of my character’s name. ;-)

I saw this on the latest update to Play Music the other day. Must say, I'm enjoying it.

The Sims FreePlay

#

I’ve just started play The Sims FreePlay on my Android tablet. It’s a Freemium game (i.e. it’s free, but you have option in-game purchases) and I have to think that the people at EA seem to have some dark humour. Here’s an example. I planted some tomatoes, which have a high XP, but only if they grow. And that’s a big IF. Tomatoes, like some of the other items in the game have a chance to do something else. With some, it’s burning, with others, its spawning a monster. Tomatoes spawns a “Sim-eating Monster” and the only option is to “Negotiate” with it. Which then turns into a fight, and within the fight, you get your sim in a position which looks like s/he is… well, almost doing something a little out of the ordinary…

Dungeon Defenders

#

I re-setup my ASUS Transformer TF101 with AOKP and decided to reinstall the apps from Google Play. Fortunately, it keeps track of everything you installed, so all I had to do was scroll down and start clicking install on everything I wanted back. One of the ones I had completely forgotten about, was Dungeon Defenders: Second Wave. It’s not visible in the market anymore, but you can still download it.

Since it’s been disabled, the in-game purchases no longer work, but then again, you don’t necessarily need it to play the game.

image

The game is still a good, fun, tower-defence 3D game. And I found that there’s a beta of Dungeon Defenders 2 available, but you have to request a beta invite. I won’t be doing that because I’m only playing DD casually, and irratically.

Zombies, Run! 2 -- Supply Missions Are Back!

#

The latest update for the ZR2 app now re-introduces the Supply Missions from Season 1. These missions are not storyline related and do not end. They go on for as long as you want. When you end the mission, the final audio clip plays. I haven’t checked since the update, but as these are optional, I don’t believe they will give you Materials for your base. Also, in the original ZR app, you could only do supply missions after playing certain missions. For example, you could only play the Fuel Run Supply Mission after the mission where you are introduced to Ed and Molly. Such a restriction is no longer the case.

Does anyone here play PKR? I’m trying to learn the game and I’m mediocre at best, so would like to get a few additional contacts to add to my list, and maybe get some tips….

EOS

#

No, not the camera thingy, this is to do with Android. I just found out about EOS today which is another variant of AOSP by a different team. I’ve had a few problems with CyanogenMod, and I’ve tried AOKP, so I’m going to give EOS a go next and see if that’s any better.

Order and Chaos

#

I’m playing Order & Chaos on my Android, and I’m planning my build. I’m going to go for a defensive build, which is mainly Permafrost/Frost/Ice-based skills. So after playing with this calculator at OAC, I’ve found that I can max out every skill by the time I hit the cap of L60, except for the two skills which are sleep-spells, and are practically useless - they send the opponent to sleep, and any attacks or skills wake them up again.

Google Music & GmusicFS

#

The latest update to Google Play Music has really annoyed me. Nothing due to the interface (I’m fine with that), but it Force Closes every few minutes, and I keep getting the message ever y 5-10 minutes as it tries to sync so I’ve uninstalled it. But obviously this means I no longer have access to my Google Music library.

Not exactly true.

Using a tool released on XDA Developers, called GMusicFS (Google Music Filesystem), you can actually use any other player (WinAMP, PowerAMP, Rocket Player) to play your Google Music, because GMusicFS turns a directory on your SD Card into a pseudo-library, which is actually the Google Music library.

It seems to work, but does require a rooted device.

Here’s the link if you want to try it out yourself:

Zombies, Run! | What’s next for Zombies, Run! 2?

#

From the ZR blog (Zombies, Run! | What’s next for Zombies, Run! 2?)

And this was mentioned in my previous posts here and here, before they blogged it. :D

Since the launch of Zombies, Run! 2, we at Six to Start have continued to work hard on the game. We’re producing bug fixes, feature updates and more for not only the iOS and Android versions of the game, but ZombieLink too.

To start off, we’ve released ZombieLink Mission pages today. This is a huge update to ZombieLink, which allows you to track which missions you’ve completed and view detailed information for each one. On each mission page you’ll not only see your related run logs and a description of each individual story clip, but you’ll be able to listen back to them, too. And by default, we’re hiding spoilers so you won’t see details from missions you haven’t played.

We’re really pleased to deliver such a regularly requested feature. Be aware, though - you can only hear clips from missions you’ve previously completed.

Visit the Missions pages (you need to be logged in)

We’ve also released an update for the Android version of Zombies, Run! 2 today. This includes a bunch of bug fixes, as well as the highly anticipated re-introduction of Radio Mode. So if you’ve already rushed through all the story missions and sidequests which have been released so far, you can jump straight to Radio Mode on your next run. Next on the list are Race Missions, which we’ll be adding to the Android version of the game as soon as we can.

We’re not going to run out of new stuff to add to either the iOS or Android versions of Zombies, Run! 2 anytime soon. As well as bug fixes and tweaks, we’ve got plans to improve the base builder even further, plus some other secret stuff which we can’t discuss quite yet. We’ll also be adding supply missions and the codex back to the game, so look out for all that in the coming months!
