OpenSSL after Heartbleed | Linux.com | The source for Linux information

#

Despite being a library that most people outside of the technology industry have never heard of, the Heartbleed bug in OpenSSL caught the attention of the mainstream press when it was uncovered in April 2014 because so many websites were vulnerable to theft of sensitive server and user data. At LinuxCon Europe, Rich Salz and Tim Hudson from the OpenSSL team did a deep dive into what happened with Heartbleed and the steps the OpenSSL team are taking to improve the project.

Open source Android ROM project dies, developers launch fork.

So, CM is dead, but like with most things in the open source world, things will be forked, especially if there’s a disagreement between the two. In this case, rather than compete, it’s a desire to keep the project going.

Asok: No, and you’re a racist.

Boss: Here’s what he said on social media.

If London Was Deserted...

Ever wondered what a deserted London might look like? Like 28 Days but with everyone gone? This could be what it looks like…… and it’s damned unnerving.

Returning back to running after a period of being unable to breathe properly due to a cough. Still lingering slightly, but doesn’t now wake me up at 1am for a coughing fit.

Averaged 5:52 min/km so still within my 6min mark. Running with a Spotify Running list at 160bpm. Finding that’s letting me go slow, but not burn out too quickly.

Time is running out for NTP | InfoWorld

#

A lot of projects are corporate, but some, like NTP are small, or even solo projects. When these small projects become really important and still not have enough resource to maintain, the security issues can’t be patches as fast as, say Oracle, Microsoft or Google.

Everyone benefits from Network Time Protocol, but the project struggles to pay its sole maintainer or fund its various initiatives

The Voting Process

#
This is why Trump got voted.

Maybe this will give america the kick in the arse it needs to change its voting system.

And maybe it'll give the UK a kick it needs to also get rid of the first past the post system here too.

But I'm not holding my breath.

Wix gets caught “stealing” GPL code from WordPress | Ars Technica

#

Well… “stealing”? I guess it depends on how you interpret the GPL.  Nonetheless bottom line is – if you are going to use GPL code, your code and product must follow the same license. i.e.

“… if you’re going to embed GPL stuff in your code and produce a derivative product, you’re going to have to make that derivative compliant with GPL—either by shipping the code with it or providing the code on request”

So, the headline of “stealing” GPL code? Can you actually “steal” code that is open source? Using open source in a closed source product would be a violation of the GPL (which I believe is what’s being talked about here), but is that “stealing”?

I’m not siding with either side here, I’m just not sure the word “stealing” is the right phrase to use in this headling here, quoted or not. Guess that’s clickbait for you….

abandonedstations

A really interesting map of all of London’s abandoned and partly-abandoned stations. Some of which I knew about (Mill Hill East for example), others, like Highbury + Islington, which I use daily to get to work, I didn’t know had a different surface building at one point.

An attempt to bust some of the myths that surround Linux. Not a lot of them, but still some of them - some of which I see a lot in Windows communities. And the old classic “Linux is CLI only” (facepalm)

Cooking with HelloFresh Day 2

#

Second meal from the three-meal trial box. Went slightly messier than Sunday.

Beans and tomatoes cooking

The next part got real messy. Searing the steaks. Might need to adjust timing and heat for the next time :)

Cooking with HelloFresh

#

Gave the HelloFresh service a whirl yesterday. Here’s the results

All the ingredients gave premeasured - with one exception (the lemon), that had to be cut in half for use on the salad (I chose not to do this)

Half way through cooking, the sausage meat was turned into meatballs and frying happily; and the orzo, onions, courgettes, and broad beans are simmering away happily in the other pan.

There were enough ingredients for two servings, so here’s the result. Not perfect – I need to learn how to slice and dice onions a bit more effectively, and perhaps I should have left the beans to cook a bit longer. Also, there’s half a meatball here because I used it to check whether the balls were finished cooking
