Commuting to work. Feasible for some, not very much so for others. For me, this is the equivalent of running a Half Marathon each way. Probably not possible right now, but if I could do that, then I would be doing an Annette.

10K Training – Day 12: Getting Faster – Day 8

#

Tracks: ZR (Beta track here), Endomondo

Target: 5km 5:40 - 5:48 min/km. Completion time: 28:20 - 29:00 min

Achieved: 5.15 km 5:56 min/km. Over my target range so need to practise my pacing better.

Next run: Monday – 5km 7:45 min/km. Completion time: 38:45 min

10K Training – Day 11: Getting Faster – Day 7

#

Tracks: ZR (Beta track here), Endomondo

Target: 3 km Intervals 5:24 - 5:48 min/km. Completion time: 16:12 - 17:24 min

Achieved: 2.68 km, 5:30 min/km. Interesting run. This is the first time I’ve seriously tried to use the Zombie Chases option inside the Zombies, Run! app. The first chase happened at 0.47 km into the run. Easily evaded since I was pretty fresh into the run. The second chase happened 2.44 km into the run. I got caught this time. :-(. Interestingly fun, though.

Chases require you to go around 15% faster than your current speed, and can go up to a minute in sprinting. If you put enough distance between yourself and the zombie, you evade them. If you last more than a minute, you evade them. The chase started at 100m and I managed to get 110m between myself and the first zombie.

When the second chase happened, I hadn’t fully recovered from the first chase, so I got caught. But still, it helps push my training. I’m going to keep using this. Maybe I can throw it in during my long runs to help put some variety in my training.

Next run: Saturday – 5km 5:40 - 5:48 min/km. Completion time: 28:20 - 29:00 min

10K Training – Delayed Run #2

#

Today’s 3 km run has been delayed to tomorrow. ZR app again decided not to play with gmusicfs. I think as soon as I successfully resync, I’m going to backup everything. I think I’ll have to put back my mp3 collection onto my phone (which is what I was trying to avoid) and use that.

10K Training – Day 10: Getting Faster – Day 6

#

Tracks: ZR (Beta track here), Endomondo

Target: 5 km @ 5:40 - 5:48 min/km. Completion time: 28:20 - 29:00 min completion time.

Achieved: 5.21 km @ 5:33 min/km. Completion time: 28.57. Within completion time target. Kept a fairy constant pace of around 5:00 min/km for the first 4 km, but dropped the ball at 5 km, which impacted my final time.

Next run: Tomorrow - 3 km Intervals 5:24 - 5:48 min/km. Completion time: 16:12 - 17:24

10K Training – Delayed Run #1

#

Today’s 5 km run has been delayed to tomorrow. Far too shattered to run today.

10K Training – Day 9: Getting Faster – Day 5

#

Tracks: ZR (Beta track here), Endomondo

Target: 5 km @ 7:46 min/km. Completion time: 38:50 mins

Achieved: 4.60 km @ 5:34 min/km. Completion time: 25:37 mins

Nice, comfortable run today. Slightly short of 5 km, but I guess I could always do a third lap next time. Was able to keep 5 min/km pace for the first three km. If I keep this pace for the full 10 km, I’ll hit around 50 min completion. :)

Next run: 5 km @ 5:40 - 5:48 min/km. Completion time: 28:20 - 29:00 min completion time.

10K Training – Side Run: 10K Trial Run #1

#

Tracks: ZREndomondo

Yes, ZR is now working again, although it is still flaky when trying to work with gmusicfs.

Not on my training plan, but I wanted to see how fast I could do a 10K with the current training schedule and fitness.

Target: 10 km. Completion time: < 55 minutes

Achieved: 6.81 km @ 6.29 min/km

Nowhere near where I wanted to be, so I still need to work on it.

10K Training – Day 8: Getting Faster – Day 4

#

Tracks: ZR, Endomondo (here and here).

Target: 5 km @ 5:48 - 5:40 min/km. Completion time: 29:00 - 28:20 min

Achieved: 1.24 km @ 1.53 min/km + 1.28 km @ 5.37 min/km (the first one seems like dodgy GPS, and my phone rebooted so that might be why….)

Next run: Monday, 5 km @ 7:46 min/km, but I’m going to trial a 10k run tomorrow (which isn’t on my schedule)

Zombies, Run! | Your cool bases

#

Hey, check it out. I got mentioned :)

Next we have Blenderfox’s… unique vision of Abel Township. One that features seven fully upgraded training areas. Presumably so that Runners have no excuse not to keep active between missions. Though, at least they get to go to sleep in actual houses of an evening…
Well, considering I focused on defense first and foremost before developing the rest, Training Areas were one of the few buildings which pushed up the Defense rating of the base. Others, such as the Comms shack didn't push the defense up as much because it also increased Morale.

Now, with Defense and Morale at 100%, I can start working on using the other buildings.

The guys at Six to Start were right though. My base is definitely “unique”. It’s the only one with more than one Training Area. And the only one to have all of them fully upgraded (although they don’t all have the full addons)

Zombies, Run! | Your cool bases.

The article didn’t have a good picture of the base, so here’s a better shot (clickable to go full-screen):

How Annette Fredskov Ran 366 Marathons in 365 Days | Endomondo

#
One of Endomondo’s most extraordinary users, Annette Fredskov, completed an amazing 366 marathons in one year. We were eager to hear all about it. When we called Annette at the agreed upon time to interview her, she picked up and asked us to call her back in 20, because she was out…well…running. “I just ran much further than I planned for today because it felt so good,” she said. After one year of running a marathon a day, this woman is still in love with running.

10K Training – Day 7: Getting Faster – Day 3

#

endomondo

Tracks: Endomondo. No ZR tracks because (you guessed it), the app is playing up on me again. Really frustrating when it happens.

Target: 3 km intervals @ 5:48 - 5:24 min/km. Completion time: 17:24 - 16:12 min/km

Achieved: 2.93 km @ 5:03 min/km.

I intended to use my ZR app to help with the interval training by getting zombie chased, but since the app kept crashing on me (I guess it doesn’t like working with gmusicfs), I had to go without.

Next run: Saturday - 5 km @ 5:48 - 5:40 min/km. Completion time: 29:00 - 28:20 min

10K Training – Day 6: Getting Faster – Day 2

#

Tracks: ZR, Endomondo

Target: 5 km @ 5:48 - 5:40 min/km (Completion time target: 28:20-29:00)

Achieved: 5.40 km @ 5.34 min/km (6 secs faster than target range)

First “Fast” run of the training. Tough trying to break the 30 minute mark, and dropped to a walk several times, but a good start. The only way is up :)

On the downside, I was witness to the arrogance of a BMW driver (they’re normally a nightmare on the road anyway), arguing with a cyclist after he almost knocked the rider over. Of course, the driver blamed the cyclist, even though the cyclist was stationary before the driver even came round! I despair…. -_-

10K Training – Day 5: Getting Faster - Day 1

#

Tracks: ZR (None - app playing up again), Endomondo (here, and here)

Disappointing today. My phone reset itself during my run, completely screwing up my stats.

10K Training: Missed Run

#

I missed today’s run due to a torrential downpour of rain. So I shifted my run to tomorrow. This means I’ll have three runs back to back - a jog tomorrow, a fast run (5 km @ 5:48 - 5:40 min/km), and my first interval run of the training (3 km @ 5:48 - 5:24 min/km).

The MyAsics website warns me against running “long distances in succession”. Well, I don’t really think 3k and 5k are significantly long distances, somehow….

Zombies, Run! Building Requirements & Achievements

#

I’ve started work on two FAQs which list the building requirements and achievements that can be unlocked in the game. The links are:

http://goo.gl/WdZsEV (Achievements)

http://goo.gl/VhwuCa (Building Requirements)

The information isn’t quite complete as I haven’t built all the buildings, or unlocked all the achievements. But it’s a start. I’ve made a guess on some of the requirements for some of the achievements, but they’re not confirmed. If you’ve unlocked any of the ones I’m missing, let me know, so I can fill the gaps.

Side Run #1

#

Tracks: ZR, Endomondo

Not part of my training plan, but felt like I could go for a second round, so, what the heck, I went for it. Felt surprisingly good actually…

10K Training – Day 4: Preconditioning Phase – Day 4

#

Tracks: ZR, Endomondo

The ZR app is still playing up, but only on the latest missions. I have a few missions to complete before then anyway, so I’ve raised a ticket with Six to Start about it.

As for the training. Today’s target: 8 km @ 7:12 - 6:38.

Achieved: 8.04 km @ 5:50

Next run, Monday - 5 km @ 7:46 min/km

Also, discovered that AKB48 is a nice band to listen to whilst running. Some comfortably fast beats to keep time to.
