Made a complete mess of today’s workout. Burned out too quickly and ended up walking most of it. Got a long way to go before I can do a Half Marathon…. :(
A snippet to download and run the latest build of the Chromium browser. Meant for Cygwin/Windows but can be adapted if needed.
If you need to use a proxy, set your http_proxy and https_proxy variables before using this.
Now updated to kill running Chrome/Chromium processes before running the installer (in case of locking issues). Also created a Bitbucket repo here for this script

Like him or not, Jim Carey has a rubbery face that some comedians can only dream of.

Today’s run I dropped below 90% for the first time in a while. I can maintain a heart rate, but trying to get up to that rate, or dropping it down is difficult….

Day 7 of training. Again, 90%. Tried running up a steeper hill compared to my previous days runs. Not such a good idea since I burned out quicker - have to make sure I pace myself better.
Now I see why my previous attempts to model in Blender didn’t succeed - my reference images were not level and not the same scale. Whilst there was nothing mentioned on the tutorials at Blender Cookie (in those tutorials, the reference images came already prepared), the first step that Angela Guenette (modeller on the Sintel short - cover on the right) on the Blenderella DVD immediately mentioned is to prepare the reference images in GIMP: rotating, scaling, and adding horizontal reference lines to allow you to line up features across the various reference images.
Wish I’d known about this before spending time on my last modelling attempt. :/
Oh, well, you learn from mistakes.
You may recall in my earlier post that I mentioned the GfxTablet project but complained that there was no support for left-handed users, but I just discovered something.
Under Xfce the configuration for Mouse and Touchpad:
Inside the configuration applet, you get to see all the input devices available on your system. On my system, I have the touchpad set as left-handed, because I prefer to work with my mouse buttons swapped (as I’m left-handed).
However, what you notice is that “Network Tablet” shows up on this list when the service is running:
So, select that, and:
Lo and behold, the Network Tablet is configured as right-handed. Which means that even though my touchpad is configured as left-handed, I can freely use my Android tablet as a graphics tablet without the annoying button switching I had to do before.
Now, I found this in Fedora, but it might also work under Xubuntu.
Managed to stay in zone for most of the run, but it was a little slow to get up to Green, so I guess that’s why I only scored 90% on this run. But still, 90% and above, and I’m pleased.
For you Scientific Whovians.
I was a bit surprised when I went into my Google Music library and found I had over 19 days of music purchased. I hadn’t uploaded anything :P
A collection of various martial arts films. All of these I’ve seen, and I would recommend Flashpoint or Raid Redemption if you’re after MMA-style grappling fights.
First long run of the training. It was only 30 minutes, but it’ll go up next week. Interestingly, even though I managed to settle into a comfortable pace, my heart rate kept climbing. Then, just towards the end of the 20-minute Green Zone, my pacer beeped me, telling me to slow down. If my heart rate hits that limit in 20 minutes, then next Saturday, when the duration gets upped to 35 minutes with a 25-minute Green Zone, I’m going to end up hitting that border more often in the last 5 minutes.
Also, here’s an interesting fact. Today, I covered 5.26 KM at 00:06:52 min/KM. Yesterday, I covered 3.56 KM at 00:07:53 min/KM. So, I covered a longer distance at a shorter pace.
Oh, and if you’re interested, I also had Zombies, Run! running during this run. That run is available here (can’t embed it)
Tomorrow is the first Long Run of my Half Marathon training. It’s a simple 30-minute Green Run. I should be able to get around 4 KMs out of this run, but considering my training is by Heart Rate, and not pace, I won’t be running very fast.
The Long Runs are on Saturday (I picked that day for them), and whilst this week’s run is 30 minutes, the Long Run time goes up, until on the last week of training (which will be in July if I can last it), the Long Run is 1h 40mins. I have done a run of 1h 30mins, but it wasn’t non-stop, so it will be interesting to see how well I last, and that’s assuming I can last the distance.
I’ve spent the most part of today (writing this at 11:40pm) installing and setting up Fedora on my laptop, moving over from Ubuntu. It’s always a pain setting up a new OS, and even more frustrating copying files to the new OS. I had over 35GB to copy and these were just work files. No movies, music, or games.
Setting up BOINC was a headache too. Finally got it working, but it keeps coming up with an error at loading. But it works, and that’s the important thing. On the plus side, I’ve Bitbucketted the setup script I’ve used so if I have to rebuild, it won’t take me as long next time.
For a significant part of my childhood and teens, I was under the impression that a leap year was every four years, and found out when I got to college and had a lab exercise to program a leap year calculator, that the “4-year cycle” wasn’t entirely correct. CGP Grey does a great job of explaining this.

Green Zone Run. Comfortable and easy. Wobbled a little to begin with as my heart rate tried to settle into a comfortable pace.
Overall Score: 90%
