Oak Hill Parkrun #4

A nice warm day, gentle breeze. A good run, and broke my current parkrun PB at a time of 25:48, and cam in 38th position. Best position so far. :D

My SmartWatch said I beat my 5K PB with 25:52, but it didn’t register as a new on the Nike+ site. EDIT: Looks like it just took a long time to register on the site.

And I have to say, parkruns really are a good way to improving your speed. When I started, my 5Ks were around the 30min+ mark. Now, I’ve been getting down, and have nearly taken off 5 minutes from my average 5K time. Seriously, if there is a parkrun near you, go try it out. It’s almost race-like in its organisation, even though it is isn’t a competition, so it is a good way of getting a feel for how a race might feel like.

Weekend Run #6

Rainy day, didn’t do the parkrun, but ran later instead. Still raining. Also was very tired since I was up till past midnight reflashing my phone and tablet devices. Not sure why, but my phone was complaining of low space (120MB left) on internal storage, and I could not seem to free up anything. Spent the night letting Titanium Backup try to restore the apps.

My tablet was running ICS, but now I’ve got it up to KitKat thanks to XDA.

Easy run with 60/20 easy/med intervals.

Note to self: don’t run in the local park in the evening with your mouth open unless you want fly pie. :P

Sunny and warm. A big contrast to last week’s run. My phone’s GPS fritzed again, so no path tracked in Endomondo or ZR.

Also, broke 250K running with my Nike+ SmartWatch.

You finished in 45th place and were the 34th male out of a field of 84 parkrunners and you came 8th in your age category VM35-39. Take a look at this week's full set of results on our website. Your PB at Oak Hill parkrun remains 00:26:11. Your best time this year remains 00:26:11.

Grey, gloomy, and raining. Although, like most British weather, it cleared up soon after starting the run.   No records broken this week, but did get two trophies.

You finished in 41st place and were the 37th male out of a field of 75 parkrunners and you came 9th in your age category VM35-39. Take a look at this week's full set of results on our website. Congratulations on setting a new Personal Best at this event! Congratulations on your fastest time this year.

My first attempt at a Parkrun. Official results: #63 overall, #47 male, #8 in age-range 35-39. Total participants: 102. Official time of 26:15.

You finished in 63rd place and were the 47th male out of a field of 102 parkrunners and you came 8th in your age category VM35-39. Take a look at this week's full set of results on our website. Well done on your first run. We have set this as your PB.

It was in familiar surroundings - Oak Hill Park is my local park and I’ve spent many hours running through it. It may not be as big as some other local parks (e.g. Trent Park) and does suffer from clouds of flies in the evenings, but in the early mornings, pounding the paths is great fun.

My phone’s GPS fritzed again, so my Endomondo and ZR tracks were messed up. Lucky I had my SportsWatch. And the run, with the semi-competitive environment meant I destroyed my 5K PB, and managed to just get a sub-8min mile

Virgin Money London Marathon - Shobukhova doping ban, Virgin London Marathon - Latest Race News

#
The Virgin Money London Marathon was disappointed to hear the news that Liliya Shobukhova has been handed a two year doping ban by the Russian Athletics Federation (VFLA).

It notes that the VFLA has annulled Shobukhova‘s results from 9TH October 2009, which includes her results in the London Marathons 2010 – 2011. If this decision is confirmed after any appeal, then it would mean that results from the years she ran in the London Marathon 2010 (1st) and 2011(2nd) or would be annulled.

Hugh Brasher, Race Director of the Virgin Money London Marathon said, “London Marathon is at the forefront of the fight against doping in our sport, and we are very proud to have been the first major marathon to introduce blood testing for all of our elite competitors, prior to each event. This mandatory blood testing commenced at the London Marathon in 2002, and has continued with all our elite competitors throughout. As one of the world’s leading marathons, we continue to work very closely with UK Anti-Doping, the IAAF and WADA with the aim of eradicating drug taking in our sport.”

As part of London Marathon elite athlete contracts, any athlete found guilty of a doping offence will be required to repay any prize or appearance money.

The athlete has a right to appeal the Federation decision. London Marathon is unable to comment further until that has either expired, or any appeal has been determined.

Weekday Run #11

Second day in a row breaking my 1K record. Shaved another 5 seconds off it.

Weekday Run #10

#

First run after a long break with diminished lung capacity. Finally felt good enough to give a 5K a try. Whilst I was at it, I tried changing my running posture.

And busted my 1K PB by 12 seconds. I guess this proves (if proof was needed) that your posture helps your running.

Heartbleed and the after-effects

#

עברית: לוגו של התוסף HTTPS Everywhere לפיירפוקס

Heartbleed certainly shook up a lot of companies, and whilst a lot of companies did their best to get system updated, doing so has caused users side effects, including me.

I use an extension for Chrome/Chromium called HTTPS Everywhere and this forces HTTPS connections to the site you’re visiting. However, since the patching of Heartbleed, some sites have started misbehaving and only work “properly” if I use either the Incognito mode (which means no extensions), or if I deactivate HTTPS Everywhere for the site in question. The side effect of this, unfortunately, means my net traffic to the site in question is exposed via non-secure HTTP. Fortunately, I have encountered only two sites so far which have this problem, neither of them I am too concerned (at the moment) about:

If I encounter any more, I’ll post it here.

ZR Store Fix

#

Six to Start have pushed an update for Android to the ZR3 app. It fixes the Store bug.

Weekday Run #9

#

As with run #8, no target. Just trying to recover. Felt better today. Faster, and lasted longer. Still nowhere near what I used to be able to do a few weeks ago. The pollution must had wreaked havoc on my lungs, and its taking time to repair.

Found my Fitbit - it was still clipped to my PJs.

ZR Store Issues

#

Seems like I wasn’t alone:

We are aware that some Android users are experiencing issues with the Zombies, Run! in-app store which is preventing people from obtaining Season Passes. We’re currently working on a fix for this which will be made available as soon as we can — in the meantime, we will be keeping you up to date via the Zombies, Run! Twitter feed.

We’ll also be releasing a new version of Zombies, Run! on iOS which fixes an issue with the Season 3 Special Pass. Currently this will only be available to buy for people who have previously bought any Season 2 Pass and the Season 1 Race Missions.

We’re changing this so that anyone who has previously purchased Season 2 content (a Season 2 Season Pass, Season 2 Pass Plus or a Season 2 Side Mission Pass) will be able to get hold of the Season 3 Special Pass.

Rest assured that the current launch sale for Season Passes will not end until shortly after these problems are solved, so you won’t miss out on your chance to get access to all of our upcoming Season 3 content at a discounted price.

We apologise for any inconvenience that has been caused. We’re working to get these problems solved as quickly as possible!

In case you’re wondering what this “Issue” looks like:

Weekday Run #8

#

No target, just constantly trying to recover my lung capacity and fight some kind of sneeze/cough combination cold. Difficult to run any major distances. Not helped by the fact I’ve lost my Fitbit somewhere, and can’t find it either in my house or on the 3K route. Guess I’ll have to use Fitbit solely for weight tracking now.
